This is the Home Page of Limerick City Parish. The Church of Ireland (Anglican) Parish covering the City of Limerick and its environs in South West Ireland. It is a very ancient parish and it can trace it roots back to Saint Munchin the person who was responsible for the conversion to Christianity of the local people of the area in the fifth century. Tradition has it that Saint Patrick also preached in what is today Limerick City Parish. His visit to the area is recorded in folklore and local place names. Currently the parish contains the parish Church of Saint Michael's , Pery Square and the very ancient and beautiful Limerick Cathedral (Saint Mary's) and Abington Church Murroe

The last forty years have seen the consolidation of the parish which has necessitated the closure of three churches in the City. The buildings still survive and and are now utilised for different functions. The closed churches include Saint Munchin's, built on the site of the first church built in Limerick by the Saint himself, which is now used for theatrical purposes. Saint John's which is currently being renovated for civic use and finally Trinity Church now used as the main part of the office complex of the Mid Western Health Board.

These closures have led to the consolidation of the parishioners in the remaining Church and Cathedral and the establishment of two very active and vibrant congregations. Saint Michael's offers excellent parish worship with a focus on family services and it has a large Sunday School. Limerick Cathedral offers an inspiring liturgy and an excellent choir in keeping with this most wonderful historic setting. Both styles of worship complement and enrich us in the fulness of our Church of Ireland tradition. It also provides the opportunity for the people of Limerick to take part in Parish and Cathedral style worship.
